West Islip Man Gets 1-3 Years in Prison for DWI

Man caught fleeing scene of accident while driving intoxicated

A West Islip man involved in a hit-and-run accident in Suffern, NY was sentenced to one-to-three years in state prison Tuesday at Rockland County Court for driving while intoxicated.

Robert C. Florito, 29, of 38 Ryan St, West Islip, was sentenced by Acting Supreme Court Justice William K. Nelson after pleading guilty to felony driving while intoxicated.

District Attorney Thomas P. Zugibe said that on Dec. 10, at about 8 p.m., a Suffern police officer saw Florito speeding away from the scene of an accident. Zugibe said that when Florito was stopped by police, he was observed to be intoxicated—as evinced by the odor of an alcoholic beverage, glassy eyes, impaired speech and motor coordination.
