West Islip Firefighter Suffers Minor Injuries Battling House Fire

Firefighter was treated and released from Good Sam following blaze on Toomey Road last Friday.

A West Islip firefighter was treated and released from Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center after suffering minor injuries while fighting a house fire on Toomey Road last Friday, according to West Islip Fire Department Chief Blaise Gemellaro. 

Gemellaro sent Patch the following info on the fire, which started around 1 p.m Friday: 

Reported as a structure fire, arriving units found extensive fire rear of home and interior right side/attic. West Islip FD units on scene within minutes of call. Safety Officer 41 conducted preliminary evaluation and advised arriving units. All fire and EMS personnel worked together to bring this under control within an hour. Overhaul was extensive. Suffolk County Arson and Islip Town Fire Marshals were notified and are investigating the cause.  

Mutual aid response from Bay Shore, North Babylon and Babylon – Ambulance assistance from Bay Shore Brightwaters ambulance Co. Fire extent/exterior rear and attic right side of house. Water and smoke damage throughout. One injury minor to West Islip FF treated and released from Good Samaritan ER.
