Water Taxi, Boat Collide Off Fire Island

The US Coast Guard responded to a boating accident early Sunday morning and several people were reported injured.

The US Coast Guard and Suffolk Police are investigating a boating accident off Fire Island involving the collision of a water taxi and a small pleasure craft early Sunday morning.

Coast Guard Sector Long Island Sound received a mayday transmission that two vessels had collided and there were several injured people, at approximately 2:30 a.m., according to a press release issued by the Coast Guard. There was no specific location provided by the Coast Guard.

A boat crew from Coast Guard Station Fire Island assessed and treated the injured boaters. Three people from the pleasure craft suffered injuries, including the boat operator, states the release.

Both vessels were taken to a nearby marina to awaiting emergency medical services for further evaluation.
