West Islip Teen Hit by Car Fighting For His Life

Thomas Labetti, 15, was riding his bicycle on Udall Road Tuesday night when he was struck by an SUV, police say.

A West Islip teen riding his bicycle in town Tuesday night was hit by a car and is now in critical condition in the hospital, police said.  

Thomas Labetti, 15, was riding southbound on Udall Road, near Pine Avenue, when he was struck by a 2006 Chevy Tahoe that was also headed southbound at 7:38 p.m., police said. 

Labetti was rushed to the hospital by West Islip Fire Department Rescue and the teen is now listed in critical condition with "severe internal injuries," police said.

The driver of the Tahoe, 34-year-old Dennis A. Grabhorn Jr., of West Islip, was not injured in the crash. 

No criminal charges have been filed against Grabhorn as the investigation into the crash continues.

Police are asking anyone with information about the crash to call the Third Squad at 631-854-8352.
