Updated: Man Killed by Train Identified

MTA has released more information regarding the man that was fatally struck by a LIRR train last Friday evening.

The MTA has provided more details regarding the fatal LIRR train incident that occurred last Friday evening in West Islip.

According to MTA spokesperson Sam Zambuto, the man killed has been identified as Kevin P. McFarland.  He was 32. 

"At this point, based on preliminary investigations, it appears that the incident was an accident," Zambuto said.

The accident happened east of the Higbie Lane railroad crossing at Orinoco Drive and McCall Avenue. The train involved, a 5:28 p.m. from Patchogue that was scheduled to arrive in Babylon at 6:01 p.m., was detained at the scene by police for approximately two hours.

Zambuto said that as a result of the accident, eastbound service had delays of up to 30 minutes.  He also said the investigation is still ongoing.
