UPDATE: WIHS Student in Critical Condition After Being Struck by Vehicle

Police currently investigating accident which occurred Monday morning.

Suffolk police are currently investigating an accident that left a West Islip High School student in serious condition early Monday morning.

According to police, Christopher Wilson, 16, of West Islip, was struck by a vehicle around 7 a.m. when he was crossing Montauk Highway at Barberry Road. He was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital and is listed in critical condition with a head injury, police said. 

The vehicle, a 1996 Buick Century driven by 84-year-old Dorothy Upton, of Deer Park, was impounded for a safety check, police said. The accident was not a hit-and-run, contrary to reports made earlier Monday morning, police said.

School district officials declined comment because of the ongoing police investigation.
