Teen Bicyclist Seriously Injured in Bay Shore Car Crash

Teenage male is in critical condition after being struck by automobile

Suffolk County detectives are investigating a one-care motor vehicle accident that seriously injured a teenager in Bay Shore on Tuesday.

Francisco Lopez, 15, of Bay Shore, was riding his bicycle eastbound at the intersection of Fifth Avenue and Holbrook Street when he was struck by a 2008 Honda driving southbound just before 4 p.m., according to a police report.  Lopez was thrown from the bicycle and suffered multiple injuries, including head trauma.  The driver of the Honda, John Pappias, 45, of Northport, was not injured.

Lopez was  transported by ambulance to Southside Hospital in Bay Shore, and then transferred to Stony Brook University Medical Center where he was listed in critical condition, detectives said.

The vehicle was impounded for a safety check and the investigation is continuing. Detectives are asking anyone with information to contact the Third Squad at 631-854-8352.
