Suffolk Police Rescue Disabled Boat in Great South Bay

Marine officers tow in vessel near the Fire Island Pines.

Suffolk Marine Police rescued two boaters off Fire Island Pines Friday afternoon.

According to a police report, a boat became disabled about 2 p.m. about a half mile north of Fire Island Pines. The day's gale forces and five-foot waves presented poor visibility. Officers Robert Daniels, Daniel Smith, and Kevin Comiskey on Marine Kilo located the 38-foot lobster-style vessel using GPS coordinates. The boat is used for transporting workers to and from Fire Island Pines.

The officers attached a tow line to the disabled vessel and towed it three miles to Brown’s River in Sayville.
