SPCA Seeking Person Suspected of Leaving Dog in West Islip Dumpster

One-year-old Lhasa apso is found alive in dumpster Tuesday morning; SPCA offering $2,000 reward for info that leads to an arrest.

The Suffolk County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals has released a surveillance image of a person suspected of leaving a small dog in a dumpster behind a West Islip gas station Monday morning.

Police alerted the SPCA after someone found the female 1-year-old Lhasa apso alive in the dumpster early Tuesday morning behind USA gas station located at 410 Montauk Highway.

“It appeared a black SUV pulled up by the dumpster, opened up its rear hatch and took a large plastic garbage bag out of the back of the vehicle and threw it into the dumpster,” SPCA Chief Roy Gross said, according to a WCBS 880 report

The dog was treated at the Veterinary Medical Center of West Islip and is now at the Islip Animal Shelter.

The SPCA is offering a reward of up to $2,000 for information that leads to an arrest and conviction of the person or people responsible for dumping the dog.
