A West Islip woman had a blood alcohol content of more than twice the legal limit when she rear-ended another car on the Southern State Parkway Wednesday evening, State Police said.
Radha Maharaj, 35, was arrested on a charge of driving while intoxicated after the accident on the eastbound side of the parkway in North Massapequa. Maharaj's Mazda struck a Nissan from behind near exit 30, police said. No one was injured in the crash.
A state trooper detected the odor of an alcoholic beverage on Maharaj's breath at the scene and the West Islip woman failed sobriety tests, police said.
Maharaj's blood alcohol content (BAC) from a breath sample was .18 percent, police said. The legal limit to drive is .08 percent.
Maharaj will appear in Nassau County First District Court on Oct. 14.
