Eddy, it certainly seems that way with home break in's/robberies suddenly happening all over the place (in West Islip!?!?) and now armed robberies of WI businesses left and right. What IS going on? My brother moved back to our hometown 2.5 years ago, and just left (again) in part cuz of the harsh winter weather - didn't want to deal with it anymore. He had been bragging that he was still able to leave his apt. door unlocked while living there recently ... I'd say he got out of there just in time to keep that fantasy alive. I'd never leave *anything* unlocked around there, anymore. Shame ... different world from when we were growing up in that town. : )

The reason for the spoke of crimes in west Islip is so clear. Drugs. Mostly young adults who have been doing prescription drugs and or heroin. Doesn't matter where you live. West Islip isn't a place where it's unheard of people having drug problems. The other problem is is that parents are naive to this problem that affects most people I knew. If you wanna stop the crime recognize the warning signs of drug use educate and don't be naive. I can't put money on this robbery was fueled by a drug problem and not poverty. And with surrounding towns around the gas station could've been from anywhere

Looks like as usual the wrong people (criminals) have the guns. Most WI subarbanites live in a 1950's Leave It To Beaver mindset, and can't imagine ANY crime. Wake up, take self defense courses, and consider buying a firearm for home defense. Heck, even the police chief of Chicago changed his mind, and now advocates citizens protecting themselves!

Better to be Judged by 12 than carried by 6.
