Police: DWI Charge in Crash That Kills 84-Year-Old Woman

An 84-year-old Central Islip woman was killed in a two-crash Sunday afternoon and the driver of the other vehicle now faces a DWI charge, police said. 

According to police, Charles Koukalenios, of East Islip, was driving his 2011 Chevrolet Camaro northbound on Carleton Avenue when he crossed over into oncoming southbound traffic south of Spur Drive North in Central Islip around 3:30 p.m.

The Camaro collided with a southbound 2002 Buick Century driven by Mary Rogalle, police said. 

Rogalle was transported to Southside Hospital in Bay Shore, where she was pronounced dead.  Koukalenios, 29, was also taken to Southside Hospital, where he was admitted for non-life threatening injuries.

Koukalenios was arrested and charged with DWI. He will be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip at a later date.
