Police: Central Islip Woman Killed Newborn Daughter

Santos Elena Ruiz Solano, 26, is charged with second degree murder.

A Central Islip woman was arrested Thursday after police say she killed her newborn daughter earlier this week. 

Santos Elena Ruiz Solano, 26, gave birth to the girl on Sunday at 3 a.m. at a home on Shoal Drive in West Islip, where she was employed as a live-in housekeeper, police said. 

Police said baby suffered traumatic injuries shortly after her birth and died at the scene.

Ruiz Solano then placed the baby in a plastic bag and left the home, police said. 

Ruiz Solano later was forced to seek medical care at a nearby hospital for complications from child birth, police said.

The baby's body was recovered from a nearby garbage can and given to hospital personnel, who then called police.

Ruiz Solano is charged with second degree murder and will held overnight for arraignment in First District Court in Central Islip on Friday.
