A 10-year-old boy from Lindenhurst is in critical condition in the hospital after he was hit by a car Saturday night, police said.

John Johnson was crossing Montauk Highway at South 13th Street in Lindenhurst with his mother when he was struck by a 2008 Toyota Scion that was traveling west on Montauk Highway at about 8:30 p.m., police said.

I can't imagine why there's a crosswalk there, it's unsafe to cross Montauk Hwy anywhere. Westbound, it's a half mile from the last light, cars are zooming without a care.

Everybody wants to blame somebody for everything. The story references "no criminality": it's actually possible that bad judgment was involved in this accident on Montauk HIGHWAY.

Heading west at that time of night the sun glare is terrible! I'm sure that had something to do with it... this is a terrible story and my prayers go out to this child and his poor family!
