A Brooklyn man was identified as the body found in a burning vehicle in Medford on Sunday, Suffolk County Police said. The body of Felix Roberto Hidalgo Jacquez, 40, of Brooklyn, was found inside of the vehicle according to police.

The well-known iconic French cuisine restaurant Le Soir, on the corner of Bayport Avenue and Montauk Highway in Bayport, was destroyed in a blaze early Friday morning.


A Centereach man pleaded not guilty to a seven-count indictment related to  and injured another person in May.

Babylon Village
A mosquito sample found in West Babylon has tested positive for West Nile virus, the New York State Department of Health confirmed through the Suffolk County Health Services (SCDHS) on Thursday. A day later, officials six more samples had tested positive county-wide. 

Two men were injured on Tuesday afternoon in a scaffolding accident on 33rd Street in Lindenhurst.

Half Hollow Hills
Matthew Scarpati’s soccer career was cut short when a drunken driver struck and killed the Dix Hills 19-year-old in 2009. However, it is through his memory that hundreds of children with cancer will have a rare chance to take up the sport. Sunrise Day Camp, a summer camp for children with cancer in Wheatley Heights, dedicated its soccer field to Scarpati on Monday. 

Deer Park-North Babylon
Deer Park filmmaker Brian Hession said he was thrilled to premier his first ndependent short film Gas and Gulp on Thursday at the Long Island International Film Expo in Bellmore. Gas and Gulp is a three-minute short film about a girl who finds she is being followed by a mysterious car after gassing up her own.

West Islip
West Islip’s Kyle Turri was in Finland this week as a member of Team USA’s U-19 men’s lacrosse team competing in the 2012 World Championships.
