Mercurio Claims Victory in West Islip Commissioner Race
First-time commissioner defeated incumbent Kevin Shaughnessy.
Michael Mercurio won a five-year seat on the West Islip Fire District Board of Commissioners on Tuesday night.
Mercurio beat incumbent Kevin Shaughnessy, who has served three terms as a commissioner with the department.
A longtime volunteer, Mercurio has served as a member of the FDNY for 16 years. He has also worked as a Town of Islip Emergency Management Coordinator and currently works with the FDNY Center For Terrorism and Disaster Preparedness.
