Memorial Day Weekend Yields Multiple DWI Arrests

Suffolk, Nassau Police Department arrests show some still drinking and driving

Memorial Day is the unofficial start of summer where parties and barbecues as well as going out at night are the norm. But despite the focus of law enforcement on enforcing drinking and driving laws with a greater effort this past weekend, both the Nassau and Suffolk Police Departments both made numerous arrests for DWI.

Prior to Memorial Day weekend, Suffolk Police announced plans to beef up enforcement when it comes to drinking and driving. However, according to the Suffolk Police Department, between 3 p.m. on Friday, May 28 and 7 a.m. on Tuesday, June 1, Suffolk Police made 57 DWI arrests.

While in Nassau County, between 9 p.m. on Friday, May 28 and 9 a.m. on Tuesday, June 1, Nassau Police made 73 arrests for DWI.
