Original Story: A Dix Hills man involved in a boat crash that killed West Islip Christopher Mannino in June has been ordered to appear in court Wednesday to face charges in a grand jury indictment, the Suffolk County District Attorney's Office has announced.
Brian Andreski, 27, was with a misdemeanor of operating a vessel while intoxicated [BWI] following the crash that killed Mannino on June 23. The DA's office did not release the new charges in the indictment, which will be unsealed in Suffolk County Criminal Court in Riverhead Wednesday morning.
Mannino, 39, was one of five people aboard a 38-foot fishing boat on its way to a Mako Shark fishing tournament when Andreski’s 25-foot speedboat slammed into the vessel near a stanchion under the Robert Moses Causeway around 4:50 a.m. on June 23.
Mannino was thrown from the boat and his dead body was found by divers about nine hours later, officials said. No one else on the fishing boat was hurt. Andreski and a passenger on the speedboat suffered non-life threatening injuries.
Suffolk DA Thomas Spota, in the announcement of the indictment, said of Andreski, "Crime lab tests of the defendant’s blood revealed he had a blood alcohol level of .18, over twice the legal limit of .08 for boating while intoxicated, approximately 90 minutes after hitting the fishing boat."
