6 Firefighters Hospitalized After Blaze Rips Through West Islip Home

Six firefighters were taken to the hospital with minor injuries after battling a house fire in West Islip Sunday afternoon, according to Suffolk police.

Police and firefighters responded to a fire at 664 Pat Drive at around 4 p.m. The people inside the house evacuated and escaped injury, police said.

The West Islip Fire Department got a hand from four other departments–North Babylon, Babylon, Bay Shore and West Babylon–in fighting the fire.

Six firefighters were transported to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center–three of them suffering from minor burns and the other three experiencing elevated blood pressure, police said. Police did not specify which departments the injured firefighters were from.

Arson Squad detectives are investigating the blaze, police said.
