Update: The homeowner, who was home when the fire began, was taken to the hospital after complaining of chest pains and a headache, said West Islip Fire Chief Blaise Gemellaro. No firefighters were injured in the blaze.
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
In addition to West Islip Fire Department, members of the Babylon, North Babylon and Bay Shore fire departments responded to the scene, as well as the Bay Shore-Brightwaters Rescue Ambulance and Suffolk County Arson Squad.

For the second time in less than a week, West Islip fire fighters battled a , this time at 30 Westminster Lane.
Reported just after 2 p.m. on Monday, the fire badly damaged the high ranch with charred remains of several rooms on the west side of the home clearly visible from the outside. The house is located just north of Oquenock Elementary School, which is closed this week for spring recess.
It was not immediately clear what started the fire or if there were any injuries to the home’s residents or fire fighters.
