Crimes Nearby: Police Seek Help in Nabbing Sayville Bank Robber

A look at recent crime in the region.

The following information was supplied by the Suffolk County police department. A criminal charge is only an accusation and does not indicate guilt.

Sayville

Suffolk Police are hoping the public can help identify the bank robber who hit the Capital One bank in Sayville this past July.

The man is described as thin, white, between 5’5 and 5’8 tall and wearing a long-sleeved shirt, shorts, knee-high socks, dark sunglasses and a fedora-style hat.

West Babylon


West Babylon accounted for almost a fifth of the Suffolk County First Precinct's residential burglaries in the month of August, according to police officials.

First Precinct officers speaking at a recent community meeting noted a small bump in West Babylon's residential burglaries in past month, up one from four in the month of July. The precinct on the whole had 33 during the month, with only Lindenhurst outpacing the hamlet with seven.

Deer Park

Police are investigating several car break-ins that occurred overnight Sunday in Deer Park. 

According to police, at 7:32 a.m. Monday it was reported that an unknown person broke into a unlocked car on Headline Road overnight. The car was not damaged and nothing was taken from the vehicle, police said. 

At 1 p.m. on Monday another resident reported that an unknown person entered a 1998 Buick 4-door sedan on Crossway Drive and took cash from the center console sometime overnight. Police did not specify if that vehicle was locked at the time. 

Lindenhurst

Lindenhurst accounted for almost a fourth of the Suffolk County First Precinct's residential burglaries in the month of August, according to police officials.

First Precinct officers speaking at a recent community meeting noted the bump in Lindenhurst's residential burglaries in past month, up five from only two in the month of July. The precinct on the whole had 33 during the month, with West Babylon counting six during August.
