A look at recent crime in the area.

Bank Robbery Arrest

Suffolk County Police announced the arrest of a Copiague man charged with robbing the Capital One Bank in Babylon Village last Friday afternoon.

Police said Eric Hyndman, 47, was arrested and charged with third degree robbery.

Police said Hyndman entered the Little East Neck Road bank at around 12:20 p.m. Friday, approached a teller and verbally demanded cash. The teller complied and the Hyndman fled the property, police said.

Fake Kidnapping Call

A woman received a call on her cell phone on June 4 in Melville in which an unknown male on the other end stated that he had kidnapped the woman's father.

The man, calling from a restricted number, demanded money from the woman and threatened to kill her father if she did not comply, police said. The call was a hoax as the woman was able to make contact with her father, who had in fact not been kidnapped.

Man Accused of Skimming ATM

A man leaving court on charges of skimming an ATM was re-arrested Wednesday on new charges involving a Huntington Station bank.

Suffolk County Police arrested Marian Serban, a Romanian citizen, after an appearance in First District Court in Central Islip. He was at the courthouse on charges of skimming an Astoria Federal Savings bank ATM in Kings Park. He had been arrested March 13.

Too Much to Drink

An intoxicated man at Four Food Studio in Melville did not take too kindly to being escorted from the restaurant on June 5.

Police say the man became unruly and began throwing chairs. When he stormed out the front door, he shoved the door and broke hardware at the restaurant, police said.
