Police: Drunk Driver Strikes Construction Worker on Northern State

A Queens man was arrested early Wednesday morning after he drove through a road closure on the Northern State Parkway in Dix Hills and struck a construction worker, State Police said. 

Andrew Rohkohl, 27, was arrested by troopers on charges of DWI and drug possession following the accident, which occurred at 3:19 a.m, police said. 
 
The construction worker was taken to Huntington Hospital and treated for neck and back pain.

Court Upholds Murder Charge in Crash That Killed West Islip Man

Acting State Supreme Court Justice Fernando Camacho has sustained the indictment of Thomas Herman, a 46-year-old Patchogue man charged with second degree murder and 23 other counts for causing the Sayville crash that killed a West Islip man, according to Suffolk District Attorney Thomas Spota.  

On Sunday, January 13, police say Herman was driving his Chevrolet Trailblazer westbound on Montauk Highway in Sayville when he hit half a dozen cars, the final collision taking the life of 82-year-old Sam Longo of West Islip.

Victim of Fatal Hit-and-Run Identified

The man struck and killed in a hit-and-run accident over the weekend was identified Monday as a Huntington Station resident.

Suffolk County police said the victim was Reinaldo Velasquez-Yanes, 25.  He  was struck about 3 a.m. by a vehicle southbound on New York Avenue. 

Police said the vehicle involved in the crash just north of the East 12th Street intersection was a silver or gray Mercury Grand Marquis, with a model year between 1998 and 2002. The vehicle sustained damage to the front end and grill.
