Crimes Nearby: Deer Park Bank Robbed, Pet Store Theft

Deer Park

A man brandishing a note demanding cash robbed the Deer Park branch of New York Commercial Bank at 720 Grand Blvd. last Friday, Suffolk County Police said.

According to police, the bank was robbed at 3:20 p.m. whan a man, described as being white, in his 40s, unshaven, thin, fair-skinned and about 5 foot 7 inches tall, handed the teller the note. The bank teller grabbed an undisclosed amount from the drawer and robber fled with the cash.

West Islip

Suffolk police are looking for a thief who stole over a dozen 15-inch turtles, two large koi fish, a chicken and some statuary pond décor from a West Islip exotic pet store earlier this month.

The theft at B.T.J’s Jungle, which occurred on October 7 according to the store’s surveillance video, was reported to police this weekend after owners realized the animals and items were missing.

Lindenhurst

A Lindenhurst man and two other men have been charged with multiple counts of identity theft and possession of stolen property after the Suffolk County District Attorney's office unveiled a car-selling operation that involved forged credit and identity cards.

District Attoney Thomas Spota said the ring had its origins out of Lindenhurst where Jason Gonzalez, a 23 year old, lived with his parents on North Queens Avenue.
