Crimes Nearby: Aide Charged With Stealing Disabled Person's ID

The following incidents were reported this past week by Suffolk County Police.

A Bay Shore woman was arrested and charged with stealing the identity of a mentally disabled person she was caring for, Suffolk County Police said.

Noreen Hanney, 35, was charged with Identity Theft 1st Degree, for the theft of more than $3,000, police said.

On Thursday, Hanney was taken into custody by the Suffolk County Police Identity Theft Unit after they determined that she used her job as house manager at the Adults and Children with Learning and Developmental Disabilities Inc. (ACLD) in Oakdale to steal a patient’s identity.

Between June and September of 2012, police said Hanney used the debit card numbers belonging to one of the ACLD residents and made several monthly payments to Toyota Financial for her 2008 Toyota Highlander. She also withdrew cash multiple times at ATM’s, and purchased airline tickets for a personal flight to Florida.

As a health aide, Hanney had access to the personal identities and banking information of the people living in the residence. Hanney worked at ACLD for 21-years.

•Hit-And-Run Accident Driver Sought

Suffolk County Crime Stoppers and Suffolk County Police Fourth Precinct Crime Section officers are seeking the public’s help to identify and locate the person and/or vehicle that were involved in a crash that injured a driver in Commack.

According to police, on the afternoon of March 16 a man was driving a pick-up truck north on Commack Road when he turned east onto Jericho Turnpike, lost control of the vehicle and struck a 2013 Cadillac driven by an elderly female. The pick-up truck fled east on Commack Road. The elderly female was treated and released from Huntington Hospital.

The pickup truck was described as maroon, with the words Tree Service in yellow on each side of the vehicle. The truck also had a cap covering the rear bed. The truck driver and his male passenger were both wearing neon traffic- or construction-type vests. The suspect’s vehicle sustained damage to the front passenger side and a flat front right tire.

• Ronkonkoma Shoplifter Sought

Suffolk County Crime Stoppers and Fourth Precinct Crime Section officers are seeking the public’s help to identify and locate a man who shoplifted at a Ronkonkoma store.

According to police, on March 18 at approximately 3:15 p.m. a man entered Kohl’s, located at 106 Ronkonkoma Ave., and stole various household items. The man fled the parking lot in a gold vehicle, possibly a Volkswagen Passat.

The man was described as between 20 and 30 years old, approximately 5 feet, 10 inches tall with a medium build. He had dark hair and a thin beard. He was wearing black sweatpants with a bright blue shirt with writing on the front underneath a dark gray hooded sweatshirt and a white and gray baseball hat.
