Lindenhurst man facing a felony for leaving two injured passengers behind.

The driver in a crash that injured two West Islip women this past June is now facing updated charges, according to a state crime database, and is due back in court on Dec. 13.

Joseph Gervasio, 24, of Lindenhurst, is now facing an E felony count for leaving the scene of an accident that involved physical injury and aggravated unlicensed use of a vehicle.

According to Suffolk County police, Gervasio was driving a 2008 Acura on Union Boulevard just west of Higbie Lane on June 15 at around 2 a.m. when he crashed his car. Gervasio allegedly fled the scene on foot, leaving behind two female passengers in the car that were seriously injured.

He was arrested on June 24 and charged with several misdemeanors including operating a motor vehicle with a suspended registration and no insurance.

On July 8 he pleaded not guilty to the indictment counts and is being held on $50,000 bond/cash bail.
