Babylon Station Suspends Three Morning Trains

LIRR train schedule for Tuesday to include delays and suspensions

As a result of a cable fire at Jamaica Station on Monday Morning,  Long Island Rail Road customers should expect significant schedule changes and delays during Tuesday morning and evening rush hours, MTA officials said.

The Tuesday morning rush service includes the cancellation of 33 westbound a.m. rush hour trains -- including three Babylon Station-- and will not run 75 percent of the 144 trains that normall operate.  LIRR service on the Port Washington Branch will operate normally. 

The following Babylon Station trains were cancelled.

  • The 6:15 a.m. Babylon train due in Atlantic Terminal at 7:27 a.m.
  • The 8:16 a.m. Babylon train due in Penn Station at 9:31 a.m.
  • The 8:35 a.m. Babylon train due in Penn Station at 9:37 a.m.

Crews have been working around-the-clock to repair the damage assessed to the tower's switching boards .  Over 200 wires need to be maintenanced for possible damage from the fire.

The LIRR's Tuesday evening plann will provide about 60 percent of the LIRR's regular 120 trains departing Manhattan between 4 p.m. and 8 p.m.

Customers are advised to expect canceled trains, delays and no scheduled connections at Jamaica Station.
