Reader Feedback: Recording BOE Meetings, Big Ideas For West Islip

We asked readers to weigh in on hot topics. Find out what they had to say.

Earlier this week, we asked our readers the extent to which they think Board of Education meetings should be rcorded and posted online.

While come commentors expressed in a blog post that they fear that people will not speak up at board meetings so as not to be filmed and broadcasted on the Web, Michelle Delaney said the recording will not prevent her from speaking up on important issues.

"I have spoken at Board meetings and will continue to speak whether I am recorded or not. However, we are forgetting the issues that residents felt the need to speak up about...Let's not let the issue of recording a meeting take away from the substance."

Paul M had a humorous take on the situation, saying: "If we are going to video tape it then the board meetings should be on Mondays so all spa salons can have makeover Monday specials since the public speakers all want to look their best."

On Thursday, we asked for the community's input on big ideas for making west Islip an even better place to live.

Reader betski thinks it may be too late, writing, "i don't know if it's possible. we had the opportunity in the north end of WI to put a beautiful new 7-11. instead we still have the eye sore that was there and now looks as though will be a service station...yaaaaay. we have la grange which is a mess. cvs wants to move in. why cant we say yes to that if cvs keeps the integrity of the building in tack as they did with mcdonalds (denton house) in new hyde park. we have to start thinking possibilities.....we need innovative thinkers that can make things happen."

Kris thinks that traffic problems need to be resolved before zoning changes are made. "How can anyone think about filling vacancies in to make things better in WI when they can't even get the traffic problems on Udall/Higbie fix. We need to correct the bad traffic issues before it causes someone else to lose a love one. Anyone agree?"
