Reader Feedback: Busing Problems, Remembering Dr. Grello

Readers sound off on the start of a new school year and remember a beloved pediatrician.

How Was The First Week of School?

We asked parents to back to school. A number of parents, particularly with elementary-aged kids, voiced concerns over mix-ups and delays in the bus routes throughout the first week.

One parent wrote on our Facebook Page: "Our kids got dropped off home 30 minutes late from Manetuck and we live 5 blocks away."

One parent even claimed his child was placed on the wrong bus. "I am sure it was great for most kids but unfortunately my son was sent home on the WRONG Bus, Incompetence!," wrote Kevin C.

Stephen Grello, Local Pediatrician, Dies
Earlier this week, Dr. Stephen Grello, a West Islip-based pediatrician, after a long battle with cancer. West Islip Patch readers came forward with their memories of the doctor.

"So sorry to hear the sad news about Dr. Grello," wrote Colleen Arenella. "He was a wonderful doctor, but more than than, a kind and caring person. My boys loved Dr. Stephen. My thoughts and prayers are with the entire family."

Janice Koumbiadis wrote: "I am heartbroken in tears hearing of this tragic news. Dr. Steven was our favorite Pediatrician in the world. I'm praying for his wonderful wife Jenn, and precious little daughters. we miss you Dr. Steven. you were loved."

"What a truly wonderful man Stephen was. It seems so unfair for him to be taken from this earth. A special pediatrician who always had a smile for his little patients. My heart goes out to his beautiful wife, Jen, and his adorable girls. We will miss him awfully," wrote Colleen Brennan.
