We asked our readers to weigh in on a few hot topics. Find out what they said.

Underage Drinking

After receiving a report from an anonymous source claiming they had witnessed kids as young as , we asked for readers' opinions on underage drinking in West Islip.

Seventy two percent of poll voters said the underage drinking situation in the area is getting out of hand.

Eighteen percent voted that many teens do it, and didn't see it as a big deal.

Patch user Kerri commented: "Underage drinking in this town is out of control, and absolutely worse than other towns. Unfortunately a lot of parents condone this behavior, the parents are just as bad as the kids!"

WI Resident advoctaed for tackling the problem as a community. "I don't think we should be looking to blame people or call people names, I just think parents and teens need to be aware that under age drinking is dangerous. And if we as a community are aware it's going on then we have a better chance to keep our kids safe," they wrote.

Opinions on 7-Eleven

Following the announcement that the hearing for the application of a proposed for July 26, many community members spoke out regarding the project. Though plenty of residents are still opposed to the convenience store, some opinions are beginning to shift.

"If it looks like the the picture above it would be a huge improvement!!" wrote Mary.

Sally is also in favor of building the convenience store. "I am all for the 711! [sic] You people overreact. The building there right now looks horrible! Hope it happens."

John outlined his reasoning for opposing the project, saying: "I definitely don't like the idea of a 24/7 store in the middle of a residential area. Not only would it become a hang-out for trouble it would also negatively affect those small businesses at that intersection and instead of one corner needing improvement we will have the other three with abandoned storefronts!!"

You can thank all these POS politicians for the new gun legislation designed to make law abidingRead More citizens give up their second amendment rights out of sheer frustration and incontinence of owning a gun legally for increases in savage on citizen violence. This is only the beginning and in short time many New Yorker's will be forced to remain in their homes fearing one of these animals will make them their pray. I for one believe in the old adage, it's better to be judged by 12 than carried by 6.

I think Proposition 2 is a great idea, in the current structure you have to "call out" anRead More individual basically saying "I think you are doing a particularly bad job". Politics get dirty enough as is and I think this will increase participation and ultimately give us a better Board of Education.
