Here's what you need to know about Wednesday, January 19.

Check this list everyday for a glimpse at what's happening around West Islip... from school events to sports games and Town of Islip functions, there is a sampling of everything.

1.  Orchestra Concert (7 p.m.)

2. Lose the Holiday Pounds: The Science of Weight Loss (7-9 p.m., )

Certified medical exercise specialist John Boos brings this presentation informing you on the myths of the fitness industry. You will learn how to maintain weight loss with the proper diet and exercise.

3.  Superintendent Open Office (7:30-9:30 p.m.,

Rick Simon has implemented open office hours in an effort to encourage district communication.

4.  Grandparents' Class (7-9:30 p.m., )

Course prepares first-time grandparents for their special role in a child's life.  Fee: $20.

Boys Basketball

A 22-point fourth quarter wasn't enough to pull the Lions out of a large deficit as they fell to 2-4 in League II play with a 50-40 loss to Bay Shore (3-3). Kyle Turri led West Islip with 15 points. James Tucci put up 12 points and Chris Anderson added 11.

Girls Basketball

West Islip broke a five-game league losing streak thanks to Rainy Hodgson's 18 points. Chelsea Weir added 10 points in the 53-42 victory over Bay Shore (1-5)

Boys Bowling

Chris Dillman bowled at least a 200 in all three games in a 642 series to lead the Lions (8-4) to a 3-0 sweep of Bay Shore (7-6). Chris Cappellini added a 583 series for West Islip.

Bay Shore (3-12) had its way with the Lions (1-14), who dropped their ninth straight game.

Girls Basketball

Kamala Thompson had 13 points and six rebounds while Brianna Thomas and Anastasia Williams each grabbed 10 boards for the Cougars (5-2) in a crucial victory over Sacred Heart (5-3).

Boys Basketball

Dante Thompson-Smallwood led the Cougars with 12 of his team's 25 points, but they were no match for St. Anthony's in a lopsided loss. James McKenna scored 19 points to lead the Friars.

You can thank all these POS politicians for the new gun legislation designed to make law abidingRead More citizens give up their second amendment rights out of sheer frustration and incontinence of owning a gun legally for increases in savage on citizen violence. This is only the beginning and in short time many New Yorker's will be forced to remain in their homes fearing one of these animals will make them their pray. I for one believe in the old adage, it's better to be judged by 12 than carried by 6.
