Editor's Notebook: Hello, West Islip

Saying hello to a town that I can't wait to get to know.

Hello, West Islip!

My name is Kaitlyn Piccoli and I am so excited to serve as your new Patch Editor. Let me tell you a little about myself and my goals for West Islip Patch.

I grew up in East Meadow and have spent most of my life on Long Island. I went to East Meadow High School and studied at Hofstra University, where I graduated with a bachelor's degree in Print Journalism, with a minor in English.

Prior to coming to West Islip, I served as the Editor of Commack Patch for a year and a half. Before that, I was a staff writer for the Long Island Press. Both positions helped me grow into the writer, editor and person that I am today, and I hope to see more of that growth with this new endeavor.

While I know how hard it is for you all to say goodbye to editor , who did a great job getting to know you all and addressing the concerns and needs of the community, it is my hope that I will be able to take West Islip Patch to the next level. I look forward to meeting each and every one of you, interacting with you personally as well digitally, and being the go-to person for the community. I want to know what is important to you, as well as new and exciting things that are going on from new business openings to festivals.

As editor, I plan to dig deeper into the issues you care about most, and provide the best coverage possible. But most importantly, I would like to continue what A.J. started – bringing you information on what is going on in your community in a timely, accurate manner.

Please feel free to e-mail me at kaitlyn.piccoli@patch.com or give me a call at (631) 252-2361. I look forward to hearing from you and getting to know West Islip!

You can thank all these POS politicians for the new gun legislation designed to make law abidingRead More citizens give up their second amendment rights out of sheer frustration and incontinence of owning a gun legally for increases in savage on citizen violence. This is only the beginning and in short time many New Yorker's will be forced to remain in their homes fearing one of these animals will make them their pray. I for one believe in the old adage, it's better to be judged by 12 than carried by 6.

Has anyone been able to find out if we are losing money renting this building to this for profitRead More preschool? If I under stood correctly from previous post's, there may be some friendship with one or more BOE members which paved the way for their lease.

I think Proposition 2 is a great idea, in the current structure you have to "call out" anRead More individual basically saying "I think you are doing a particularly bad job". Politics get dirty enough as is and I think this will increase participation and ultimately give us a better Board of Education.

Why didn't the author run for the open seat this year? Bark of a wolf and courage of a lamb.
