WI's Benza to Call Celebrity Fight Night

A.J. Benza will be in Hollywood on Saturday to announce DirecTV's pay-per-view event.

West Islip native and former Daily News gossip columnist, A.J. Benza, will be announcing Celebrity Fight Night's pay-per-view event on Saturday night at the Avalon Theatre in Hollywood, Ca., according to multiple sources.

Benza, who also appeared on the Howard Stern and the E! Channel over the years, recently spoke with AntonNews.com columnist Mike Barry about his most recent television venture.

Along with Frank Stallone (Sylvester's brother), Benza will call the fights between disgruntled celebrities (if you want to give them that much credit), including showdowns between Amy Fisher and Nadya ‘Octomom’ Suleman, Joey Buttafuco and Lou Ballera (Fisher's husband) and Michael Lohan (Yes, Linday's father) against Kato Kaelin.

From Barry's latest column "LI's Fight Night:"

“I don’t think we’re going to see crisp combinations and skilled footwork,” Benza stated, as our conversation turned to the competitors’ boxing skills.

This weekend’s festivities get underway with a weigh-in on Friday, Nov. 4, and Benza and Stallone will be in Hollywood for that, too. You think they’d wait a whole day to find out whether the rapper Coolio, another faded star on the Celebrity Fight Night circuit, was in shape?

Aside from his television appearances, Benza has also penned a memior entitled "Fame: Ain't It a Bitch."  He  also told Barry that he plans on returning to the newspaper industry after a short stint in SoCal because he's "enjoyed that more than anything I’ve ever done."
