West Islip 58th Annual Memorial Day Parade Set

Veterans and community groups will gather to honor and remember those who served.

Memorial Day weekend marks the unofficial start of summer, and is a time for family gatherings and neighborhood parades.

West Islip kicks off it's at 10 a.m. on Monday.

The parade, sponsored by local American Legion Post 1738, will start at Roderick and Udall Road, and travel south to Memorial Park on Udall Road. The parade will continue head and conclude at Paul J. Bellew elementary school.

Local veteran groups, local organizations, members of the the marching band from West Islip High School and the West Islip Fire Department will be the featured in the parade.

The public is invited to an open house tour of the American Legion Post 1738 immediately following the parade. Refreshments will be served.

Also, remember the skies above the south shore will be nosier than usual this weekend as the annual takes places Saturday and Sunday. Vintage planes and current-day fighter jets are flying in and out of Republic Airport in Farmingdale and participating in the show are stationed at Long Island MacArthur Airport in Ronkonkoma.

Patch will be on hand taking photos at local parades but we want your photos as well. Click our Pics & Clips button on our homepage and send us your best shots!

I think Proposition 2 is a great idea, in the current structure you have to "call out" anRead More individual basically saying "I think you are doing a particularly bad job". Politics get dirty enough as is and I think this will increase participation and ultimately give us a better Board of Education.
