Weekend Events: Fundraisers for Breast Cancer Coalition, West Islip Thirst Project

It's been a busy week in west Islip, and the activities don't stop for the weekend. Here's a few that are going on in the area.

The West Islip Thirst Project is working hard to reach its goal of raising $5,000 to build a well in Uganda by the end of the school year.  They'll be washing cars for $5 each at on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. They'll also be selling bracelets, pens and lanyards. Come support a great cause!

will be offering a complimentary tasting of the famous rum Saturday afternoon starting at 4 p.m. Stop by to try some and pick up a bottle or two to make your favorite summer cocktail.

The West Islip Breast Cancer Coalition is hosting a fundraiser car wash on Sunday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at . There will be music, raffles and refreshments as well. All proceeds will help provide services to local women fighting breast cancer.

Teens are invited to the Sunday afternoon to earn a community service credit by helping to plant flowers on the library grounds. Planting starts at 1 p.m.

West Islip's own this year, but needs some financial assistance. To help send him there, Gonzalez's family has set up a moonlight cruise leaving out of Captree on Sunday at 5 p.m. The 4-hour cruise costs $50 and includes beer, wine, soda and food.
