West Islip Hurricane Relief Team

Lionheart begins fundraising efforts for those impacted by Hurricane Sandy.

On Saturday November 9th, members of the Lionheart Hurricane Relief Team spent the day along with the West Islip Touchdown Club and the Varsity cheerleaders collecting donations during the West Islip Football play-off game. The generosity of the attendees was amazing and the booster club donated back to Lionheart their portion of the 50/50 proceeds as well! Lionheart truly thanks everyone for their participation and contributions.

As we now face the clean up and recovery phase of the storm, Lionheart will continue to reach out to those most affected. Our fundraising strategy continues this week with the sale of out Hurricane relief T-shirts. T-shirts can be ordered using payschools.  Our goal is to sell 1000 shirts. The T-shirts will have the lion with the heart of gold in the upper corner, and the relief team emblem on the back. They will  be available at various locations and events throughout the district as well as through PaySchools. We will also post an order form here shortly as well as on our facebook page. T-shirts will be sold for $20.00 each.   A portion of the purchase is tax deductible.

We have had many people asking what they can do to help. We are meeting on Wednesday November 14th at 7:45pm in the High School cafeteria to discuss plans we currently have, plan new events, and form sub-committees of people who want to help. Please come, bring a friend, and some new ideas! A search on the Internet shows us that all individual towns most affected by the storm are also starting their own forms of fundraising and relief strategies. While resources are out there through FEMA and the Red Cross, it is the small community and village that takes care of each other and the rise of these small pockets of charity is proof that we in West Islip also need to take care of our own. Hope to see you on the 14th!
