Get ready to Light Up Lion Lights for West Islip!

Lion Light Night and a 12/12/12 event at the Lion's Den.

Thanks to our student volunteers who were hard at work this past week, putting together 5,000 Lion Light candle kits. All of the materials were donated to create small cello packages that include a tea light candle, a cup of birdseed and a white paper bag.

Candles are simply placed in the cup of birdseed; the cup placed in the white bag and put on your curbside.  The candles should be lit at 7 p.m. on Saturday night (the 15th) in remembrance of our neighbors struggling through this holiday season.

"Lion Lights" night was made possible through a generous donation from the West Islip Teacher’s Association. Every student in the elementary level will get a candle kit in his/her backpack. Candles will also be available for pick up by High School and Middle School students at their respective buildings.

Community members who do not have school age children can pick up candle kits while supplies last at three locations:  The Lion’s Den, West Islip Wines and Liquors, and Our Little Italy Pizzeria.

On Wednesday December 12th, join us at the Lion’s Den for an impromptu fundraiser hosted by the Lion’s Den. We will enjoy the televised 12/12/12 concert and a portion of the evenings proceeds will go towards Lionheart relief.  Don’t forget to pick up your “Lion Light” candle kit.  We want to light up the West Islip for all of our community members!

You can thank all these POS politicians for the new gun legislation designed to make law abidingRead More citizens give up their second amendment rights out of sheer frustration and incontinence of owning a gun legally for increases in savage on citizen violence. This is only the beginning and in short time many New Yorker's will be forced to remain in their homes fearing one of these animals will make them their pray. I for one believe in the old adage, it's better to be judged by 12 than carried by 6.

I think Proposition 2 is a great idea, in the current structure you have to "call out" anRead More individual basically saying "I think you are doing a particularly bad job". Politics get dirty enough as is and I think this will increase participation and ultimately give us a better Board of Education.

Why didn't the author run for the open seat this year? Bark of a wolf and courage of a lamb.
