Fall has arrived & we're back to the daily grind!
It seems an all to common theme in today's homes is STRESS! It seems intrinsic to the American lifestyle. It's always GO, GO, GO! A simple way to decompress is aromatherapy. Tapping into your sense of smell is a great way to unwind after a hectic day.
Aromatherapy is the science of using scents to promote good health. It's much safer and more natural than using the alternative of caffeine and drugs. It's more fun too!!
These are the scents I recommend to my patients to help them reduce stress:
Cinnamon: It's not just for baking! Cinnamon has been shown to improve attention & memory.
Peppermint: This one is my favorite! It increases your alertness and also has such a cool & refreshing aroma. If I'm going to being doing an activity for an extended period of time I'm sure to use this oil. Peppermint oil has also been shown to calm nerves.
Vanilla: Another baking scents known to reduce stress. Add some vanilla extract to a small pot of water on the stove and simmer for a bit.
Lavender: This is by far the most popular. It helps you to handle stress & anxiety and has relaxing properties. Add some to bath water, use dryer sachets, or diffuse it in your bedroom. My personal favorite is a blend of lavender and vanilla.
Sandalwood: This rich & woody smell is great for soothing your mind & body. Just a few drops can instill a sense of inner peace.
Next time you're feeling overwhelmed & stressed consider using one of these scents. They're perfect for fall but you can use them any time of year.
