It was an amazingly quick return for a player who had suffered such a devastating injury. An injury that possibly could have been avoided had his coach used some common sense and removed an already injured player from a game in which he had limited mobility and was a target for the eleven defensive players he was facing. Now, less than a year later he was in the starting lineup after not taking a single snap during the pre-season.
To say his start did not go well is an understatement. In the first half he threw two interceptions and made a poor lateral that led to a safety. He was under constant pressure from an Eagle pass rush that battered him around like a tackling dummy. To his credit, he rebounded to have an outstanding 4th quarter however by that time his team was behind 33 – 7 and he was playing against a soft prevent defense.
Following the game it was suggested that he suffered from a little “Rust” having not practiced with his team throughout training camp. May be he was a little unsure of the knee. Whatever, the return of RG III, as he is known throughout the country, looked more like the return of RG II…
