Rare Sunday

During a season of disappointment for New York football fans, yesterday was a day to cheer both teams.  It was the first time this season that the Jets and the Giants won a game on the same Sunday.  With visions of the playoffs long gone from their heads each team showed grit, determination and a desire to play for their respective head coach’s future.

Down 10 – 0 the Jets fought back for a 24 – 13 victory.  It was a big day for rookie quarterback Geno Smith who threw for two touchdowns and scored one.  With this victory over the Browns the Jets have an opportunity to even their record in the season finale next weekend in Miami, far better than any pre-season predictions.

Trying to play the spoiler, the Giants squandered a 10 point first half lead to find themselves a touchdown behind the Detroit Lions late in the fourth quarter.  With the offense sputtering and time running out it was up to the defense to make a big play.  That play turned into a pick 6 for safety Will Hill and the Giants tied the score at 20.  Taking the game into the overtime, Coach Coughlin showed confidence in his offense, which he had called pitiful a week ago, and went for it on fourth and seven.  The resulting 15 yard completion set up a 45 yard field goal and the Giants had a walk off win.
