Manning vs. Manning

Sunday’s game between the Giants and the Denver Broncos will be the third meeting of Eli and Peyton Manning in their NFL careers.    Peyton holds a 2 – 0 edge in wins over his younger brother Eli.  Both victories came while Peyton was a member of the Indianapolis Colts.  Peyton’s first victory over Eli came in 2006 before Eli had established himself as an elite quarterback.  It was also the year of Peyton’s only Super Bowl victory.  Peyton’s second victory over Eli came during the 2010 season.

 There is no doubt that when it comes to their play during the NFL’s regular season Peyton holds a huge advantage over Eli.  He is a four time League MVP.  He has a higher season winning percentage than Eli.  He has had more seasons of 30 or more touchdown passes.  However, Eli holds the edge when it comes to the post season.  Peyton has won 9 playoff games to Eli’s 8 but he also has 11 losses, while Eli has only lost three times.  While Peyton has one Super Bowl victory to his credit Eli has two.  Peyton was a Super Bowl MVP but so was Eli, twice. 

So who then is the better Manning and does it really matter?  Both players are established stars.  They play in different cities, with different styles and with different results.  Probably each will be a future Hall of Famer.   Nevertheless, come Sunday each team, the Giants and the Broncos, should feel confident having their own Manning…
