"Let's go Jets"

Two things stand out from the Jets victory over the Buffalo Bills on Sunday: First, they have a good defense.  Statistically they are currently the 4th ranked defense in the league.  They also have a fierce pass rush that pressured the Bills inexperienced rookie quarterback all day, sacking him 8 times.  Secondly, they play hard with tremendous intensity and effort.

It was also refreshing to see them highlight their own rookie quarterback’s raw talents as both a runner and a passer.  Geno Smith had a career day in just his third start.  He threw two long touchdown passes and amassed over 300 yards in the air.  He also rushed for the Jets opening score.

Yet, before we all jump on the bandwagon and anoint the Jets Super Bowl contenders, there are some disturbing conditions that must be addressed.  Most importantly, they are undisciplined.  The Jets committed 20 penalties, a team record.  They were able to overcome these mistakes against the perennial doormat Bills but it is doubtful they will fair as well against a top AFC playoff team.  Also, the Jets are enchanted with becoming the NFL’s top defense.  An attraction perpetuated by their head coach. Instead they should be working at becoming one of the NFL’s top TEAMS.

Until Rex Ryan is willing to mend these problems the Jets will not be able to compete with the Big Boys…
