Jets Ready for Final Stretch

The Jets head into Buffalo this week well rested after the bye and motivated to continue their run at the AFC East title and the playoffs.  Currently holding the final playoff spot the Jets find themselves two games behind the Patriots for the division lead.  While the Jets will be facing the Bills, whom they have already beaten, the Patriots will also be on the road for a Monday Night matchup with one of the NFL’s hottest teams, the Carolina Panthers.

The Jets will continue to rely up a stingy defense that is currently number one against the rush, giving up a measly 73.8 yards per game.  They also boast a fearsome pass rush that has stifled some of the NFL top quarterbacks this season, including Tom Brady, Matt Ryan, and Drew Brees.

The offense however has been a different story.  Rookie quarterback Geno Smith has been good and bad.  Without a lot of big time playmakers the Jets have turned Smith into more of a game manager.  Not taking chances and not turning the ball over.  The return of Santonio Holmes could give the Jets an added explosiveness, but it remains to be seen how effective he will be coming off a hamstring injury.  Also coming back after a four game suspension is tight end Kellen Winslow.  Together they should allow the Jets to take more chances down the field.

The Jets are beginning, what has been suggested, the soft part of their schedule.  With little room for error, it will be up to Coach Rex Ryan to make sure the team does not take any opponent lightly.   Barring any major injuries and if they play smart football the rest of the way the Jets just may become the team that no one will want to face come January…
