Jets Fans Should Be “Shocked”!

After last week’s disconcerting loss to the Tennessee Titans Jets coach Rex Ryan said he was “shocked” by how badly his team was beaten.  On Wednesday, he suggested that his Jets would go to a color coded play calling system.  This to alert rookie quarterback Geno Smith as to how aggressive he should be on certain plays.  However shortly after the words were out of his mouth he quickly made an about face saying he won’t use the system.  Earlier this season, when pressed about who his starting QB would be, Rex became agitated answering “When we feel good about it we’ll make that decision…”

Thus, here in lies the major problem with the Rex Ryan Jets.  The coach has difficulty making decisions.  Maybe that’s because when he does they are usually wrong.  In 2011 he decided to guarantee a Jets Super Bowl.  His team didn’t make the playoffs.  This season, against Buffalo, he used up his two coaching challenges on ill-advised plays.  Later in that game, after an apparent fumble was incorrectly ruled down, he was unable to question the referee’s judgment.   Last season his continued misused of Tim Tebow caused the Jets to be depicted as a Circus with Rex as the head clown.

Make no mistake about it, Rex does know defense.  Under his system the Jets have become one of the most feared defensive teams in the league.  But being a head coach means overseeing the team’s entire operation.  Rex has shown no interest in developing the offense.  He is working with his third offensive coordinator in four years.  He has often said that he regularly does not attend offensive meetings.  Rex Ryan does not act as a Head Coach.
