Giants Problem Not Eazy

Following another poor performance the New York Giants have still failed to win a game.  Yesterday they were beaten by a poor Philadelphia Eagles team who were coming off three straight loses of their own.  Right now the Giants look like the worst team in the NFL.  They look old.  Much older than being just one year removed from their second Super Bowl Championship of the Eli Manning era.

Sunday’s game was a comedy of errors for the Giants.  It began with a dropped pass on a perfectly thrown deep ball from Eli Manning and ended after a three interception fourth quarter by the Giants quarterback, who now leads the league with 12 picks.  After the game, Eli stood up and took the blame for his bad decisions but realistically the problem is not all Eli.  Coach Tom Coughlin said “I honestly believe that he’s trying too hard…”

What is even harder is finding a franchise quarterback.  Just ask some of the many teams in the NFL that have, for years, been floundering without one.  It took the Giants almost 20 years to make the transfer from Y.A. Tittle to Phil Simms.  Then another ten to find Eli, who has brought them two championships.   Now, at almost 33, Eli has possibly five or six good years remaining.  The Giants need to do all they can to make sure they have all the complementary pieces in place not to waste those years.

After the game, offensive lineman,  David Diehl protected his quarterback saying “when we keep him upright and he’s comfortable and has his feet set, he’s the best quarterback in the NFL.”  If that’s the case than the Giants had better do all they can to protect “Eazy E” during the game…
