Dave & Buster and Rex

Back in the late 1960’s New York Giants fans came up with an interesting anthem which they would sing at every home game.  The song “Good Bye Allie” was a serenade to then coach Allie Sherman who the fans felt had destroyed the team.  After yesterday’s mauling of the Jets by the Buffalo Bills I think the time is right for a remake of that little ditty.  Jets fans have two weeks, before the next home game, to get their voices in tune for a few choruses of “Good Bye Rexie”!

Aside from “The Franchise”, in the four plus years he has been the Jets coach, Rex Ryan has done little to build the team’s offense.  Of course he was able to circumnavigate that deficiency by fooling the fans into thinking that the Jets had a superior defense.  After yesterday it is apparent they don’t.  Sure the offense, with four turnovers, left the defense with their backs to the wall.  However the defense still gave up over 300 yards, including touchdown passes of 34 and 43 yards.  This year the Jets defense has given up 10 pass plays of over 40 yards.

Also some of his decisions have to make Jets fans wonder.  Yesterday in an attempt to shore up a porous pass defense Rex made the decision to start recent pick up Ed Reed, a Jet for just three days.  This at the expense of starting safety Antonio Allen.  And Rex is supposed to be a player’s coach?  Also questionable was his first quarter decision to attempt a 48 yard field goal in 30 mph Buffalo winds.

Besides all that, Rex’s most bizarre decision was to throw a team party Saturday night, in Buffalo, at Dave & Buster’s.  A move, which to the Bills, probable looked like a premature celebration of a Jets victory which never materialized.  Not a good idea to motivate a sleeping dog.

Yes, the time is right.  Jets fans deserve better.  Now let’s just hope they can sing…
