Thanksgiving Day Business Guide

A look at which West Islip stores and restaurants will be open on Thanksgiving.

 

If you wake up on Thanksgiving morning and realize you forgot to buy a hostess gift or that secret ingredient to make your stuffing perfect, do not panic. Plenty of places in West Islip will be open on the holiday. However, many of them will have different or reduced hours so West Islip Patch has compiled a list of the open stores and their hours to make your holiday as stress free as possible. Here is a quick look:

OPEN Supermarkets

  • Best Yet, 9 Udall Road, 7 a.m.-3 p.m.
  • King Kullen, 478 Union Blvd., 7 a.m.-3 p.m.
  • Stop & Shop, 400 Union Blvd., 6 a.m.-3 p.m.. The pharmacy in Stop &  Shop will be closed.
  • Rite Aid, 532 Union Blvd.,  9 a.m.-6 p.m.
  • CVS, 460 Montauk Highway, 24-hours as usual.

Liquor Stores

  • Higbie Liquor & Wines, 226 Higbie Lane, 9 a.m.-3 p.m.
  • Union Liquors, 440 Union Blvd., 9 a.m.-3 p.m.
  • West Islip Wines & Liquors, 486 Union Blvd., 9 a.m.-2 p.m.

If you do not want to cook the big meal

  • Reservations are still being accepted at Villa Monaco, 778 Montauk Hwy. They will be open from 1 p.m.-7 p.m.. Call first for availability:  661-5599.

For all other needs, here is a list of the  stores that will be OPEN on Thanksgiving:

  • Bagel Buzz, 498 Union Blvd,  6:30 a.m.-1 p.m.
  • Captree Deli, 462 Union Blvd, 6 a.m.-2 p.m.
  • Carousel Diner,  306 Union Blvd. Closes at 12 p.m. (reopen 6 a.m. Friday.)
  • Carvel,  794 Udall Road, 10 a.m.-4 p.m.
  • Farrells of Brooklyn, 263 Higbie Lane, 7:30 p.m.-closing (the kitchen will not be open, just the bar for the football game.)
  • Oak Neck Deli, 945-6 Montauk Hwy., 6 a.m.-3 p.m.
  • Paradise Lounge, 12 Hawley Avenue, 8 a.m.- closing.
  • Tower Flowers, 185 Higbie Lane, 8 a.m.-2 p.m.
  • Shady Brook Designs , 432 Montauk Hwy, 8 a.m.-2 p.m.
  • Stuff a Bagel, 425 Montauk Hwy., 6 a.m.-1 p.m.
  • Summerwind Deli, 434 Montauk Hwy., 7 a.m.-2 p.m.

The following stores will be CLOSED on Thanksgiving:

  • Anthony's Pizza, 791 Udall Road
  • Bo Hing, 608 Union Blvd. (Open just for orders out)
  • Cafe Barile, 424 Montauk Highway
  • Cafe Europa, 504 Union Blvd.
  • Cafe Mojo, 191 Higbie Lane
  • Italiano's 5, Udall Road
  • Long River, 351 Union Blvd.
  • Nonnina Resturant, 999 Montauk Highway
  • Oak Neck Pizza, 945 Montauk Hwy. (Open just for orders out)
  • Our Little Italy, 636 Union Blvd.
  • Repxotica, 19 Udall Rd.
  • Slices & Ices, 159 Higbie Lane
  • Swirls & Twirls, 494 Union Blvd.

This is only the beginning and in short time many New Yorker's will be forced to remain in their homes fearing one of these animals will make them their pray. I for one believe in the old adage, it's better to be judged by 12 than carried by 6.

I think Proposition 2 is a great idea, in the current structure you have to "call out" anRead More individual basically saying "I think you are doing a particularly bad job". Politics get dirty enough as is and I think this will increase participation and ultimately give us a better Board of Education.
