Donate School Supplies to Kids in Need at the 9th Annual Back Pack Pirates Event

Sponsored by the Long Island Coalition for the Homeless, the annual event will offer new backpacks and fresh school supplies to homeless and at-risk youth.

The ninth annual Back Pack Pirates event, sponsored by the Long Island Coalition for the Homeless, is scheduled for August 26, 2014 at the Dorothy P. Flint 4H Camp in Riverhead.

The summer camp event for Long Island’s homeless and at-risk youth will offer kids a full day of activities at the beachfront camp and will culminate in the dispersal of new backpacks filled with school supplies to the participants. Last year, the Long Island Coalition for the Homeless distributed over 400 backpacks to children at the event and over 600 to other children in need.

Suffolk County Legis. Thomas Barraga is inviting anyone interested in donating to bring their items to the West Islip Library at 3 Higbie Lane in West Islip and leave them in the collection box that will be set up across from the main circulation desk.
