Farmingdale State hockey team food drive
Contribute to a Long Island food bank and catch a nationally ranked hockey team in action. It's not a bad way to spend a Saturday.
The nationally ranked Farmingdale State College men's ice hockey team is staging a food drive over the next two weeks, including its home games against Richard Stockton, on Nov. 9, and Bryn Athyn, Nov. 16.
The two home games are at 8:30 p.m. at the Freeport Recreation Center rink, on Merrick Road, west of the Meadowbrook State Parkway.
Farmingdale State is unbeaten in seven games and No. 6 in the recently released American Collegiate Hockey Association national rankings.
The team's food drive will benefit the Harry Chapin Food Bank, a part of Long Island Cares, Inc., a Hauppauge-based nonprofit.
Fans are asked to bring a can or nonperishible item to the games. The food is slated to be delivered to the nonprofit some time during the week of Nov. 18, in time for Thanksgiving.
