Winds Kick Up, Snow Begins Falling In West Islip

After a day of rain, change over to snow begins with totals of a foot or more possible locally.

As parts of New England were seeing large amounts of snow falling throughout Friday, Long Island — including West Islip — was doused with a cold, windy rain. But at around 2:30 p.m., the flakes began to fly as the rain mixed with snow and sleet. While the field at Udall Road Middle School remained largely wet as school let out, should the forecast be correct, it will soon be covered in a white blanket of snow.
